I'm taking a small break from tarot talk, to discuss something I'm fascinated by - Venus Signs as Love Languages.
Writing the monthly Sexoscopes for Dame (read yours here!) offers me plenty of time to study the energy of the planets and how they effect our love lives. Many people are constantly asking me about compatibility using sun signs. I believe you should be looking at moon signs, venus signs, and mars signs.
The moon sign is our emotional self, how we respond to the world through our feelings, and how we desire to be nurtured. For example, I am a Scorpio moon - I seek intense connections, deep feelings, and feel most nurtured through sex. My partner is a Cancer moon - moody, sensitive, emotional, caring, and compassionate. Although our sun signs are Leo (mine) and Aquarius (his) aren't the most compatible, our moon signs are both water signs, meaning we give and receive nurture and care in very similar ways.
Lets talk about Venus! Venus is considered a personal planet because she is so close to the sun. Disclaimer - I call Venus 'she' because Venus represents feminine energy and Mars represents masculine energy, neither have anything to do with gender! Feminine energy is receptive, like a magnet it draws energy toward it, while Masculine energy is active and projects energy outward. Our personal planets are Mercury, Venus, and Mars. They are so close to the sun, they effect us specifically in our chart, while outer planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are farther away from the sun and effect entire generations (more on that in another post!)
Back to Venus! Venus rules the way we give and receive love, our values around relationships, what we desire in romance, what we are attracted to, how we feel beautiful, and also a great indicator for special talents in earning money! If we consider Venus to be an indicator of our love language, we can have a much easier time identifying what we'd like out of our relationships and how to attract partners who can understand your needs and you can understand theirs.
What are love languages? We all speak our own combination of love languages, no one person identifies with only one. There are 5 identified love languages: Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, Acts of Service, Quality Time, and Gifts as written by Gary Chapman in his 1992 best seller The Five Love Languages: how to express heartfelt commitment to your mate. I'm sure we all identify with most of these, but there are 2-3 that resonate more than others.
In astrology, we can also look at the 5th & 7th house signs to also determine the qualities in a partner we would respond to best. What I mean, is, for example - my 7th house signs are Aries & Taurus. I'm not going to look to marry an Aries or a Taurus, rather, I'm going to look for the characteristics of those signs in my long term love. Aries being someone who is an individual, independent, brave, and fiery. Taurus would be someone who is stable, romantic, and sensual, that enjoys the finer things in life.
Venus Signs as Love Languages
Air Venus signs - Gemini, Libra, & Aquarius are interested in communication, they respond to mental stimulation before they become physical. Words of affirmation would be a primary love language. A serious relationship would require a partner who was an excellent communicator, and offered encouraging words, compliments, witty banter, and some very sexy pillow talk to ensure long term success.
Secondary Love Languages:
Gemini - Physical Touch, as Gemini rules the hands, and wants a multi sensory experience in romance
Libra - Gifts, as Libra is ruled by Venus and loves luxury, and extravagant gestures
Aquarius - Quality Time, as Aquarius ancient ruler was Saturn before Uranus was discovered, Aquarius may prefer their space, but when they are with their partner they are present and attentive
Earth Venus signs - Virgo, Capricorn, & Taurus are all stable and physical signs that respond to stability and dependability. Acts of Service would be the primary love language. Serious relationships would require partners who express their love by devotion to service in mundane ways, such as cleaning the house for their partner who has been working overtime.
Secondary Love Languages:
Virgo - Words of Affirmation, as Virgo is ruled by Mercury and wants to communicate deeply with a partner
Capricorn - Quality Time, as Capricorn is ruled by Saturn the lord of time, they want a partner who shows up that can be relied on
Taurus - Physical Touch, as Taurus is ruled by Venus' sensual physicality, Gifts could also be a secondary, as Taurus rules material luxury
Fire Venus Signs - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius are all fast paced, intensely action oriented signs that respond to a partner that does not hesitate to make their intentions known. Physical Touch would be the primary love language, as they prefer a long term partner that demonstrates their affection in bold ways.
Secondary Love Languages:
Aries - Quality Time, Aries wants a partner they can do things with
Leo - Gifts, as Leo loves to showered in luxury, gifts can mean being surprised with flowers, getaways, and tickets to events. The sun is always shining on them
Sagittarius - Words of Affirmation, Sagittarius is expansive and high minded, they need to be with someone they can learn from that will also listen to their unique philosophies
Water Venus Signs - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces are all signs that process the world through feelings and emotional response. They respond to a partner that is aware of their sensitivity and can hold space for them to process their emotions in productive ways. Quality time would be a great primary for water signs, to know their partner isn't rushing or forcing them.
Secondary Love Languages:
Cancer - Gifts, Cancers are sentimental and love having a physical reminder of what and who is the most special to them, gifts can also mean food, Cancers feel very nurtured through cooking
Scorpio - Physical Touch, as Scorpios are the rulers of the sex organs, they feel most loved through intense intimacy
Pisces - Acts of Service, Pisces are a sign of selfless service to the collective, and will feel most loved by a partner who shares in their humanitarian ideals
I will be writing a separate post about Mars and how they are directly related to how we fight, argue, and approach sex. I'm curious to hear about your unique experiences with Venus in love and romance. Please feel free to comment with your Venus sign, your partners, and your thoughts! Hope this helps in the quest to better understand ourselves and each other.
